Ground-Breaking at Delfzijl 4 – Mono Incineration Plant for Sewage Sludge
The ground-breaking ceremony for the construction of a mono-incineration plant for sewage sludge took place on 07 July.
EEW Energy from Waste is building an additional mono-incineration plant for sewage sludge at the site of its existing three-line waste-to-energy plant with a recycling capacity of over 500,000 tonnes of waste per year in Farmsum / Delfzijl.
The sewage sludge incineration plant consists of a single-line stationary fluidised bed incinerator for steam generation and downstream multi-stage flue gas cleaning. The average fuel thermal capacity is to be approx. 18 MWth, with 25 % dewatered sewage sludge and 60 % partially dried sewage sludge.
In a joint venture with Matthäi Bauunternehmung from Lingen, Heitkamp Industrial Solutions GmbH is again responsible for the technical organisation and project management of the construction works for the plant in Delfzijl.
The overall contract includes the construction of the following components and functional units:
- Deep foundation
- Delivery hall
- Bunker building
- Boiler house
- Flue gas cleaning
- Chimney / operating materials
- Residue silos
Due to the direct location to the Wadden Sea, special conditions have to be taken into account, such as complex foundation measures with 290 bored piles down to a depth of 37 m, the consideration of an increased wind load and water retention in the area of the deep pits. In addition to the construction of the concrete components using conventional construction methods, the bunker structure will largely be built using slip-form construction techniques.
Work is scheduled to begin in May 2022, and with an expected construction period of 20 months, completion is expected in the first quarter of 2024.
